Predicting mental health crises

The U.S. healthcare system is not built to handle mental health crises effectively. Clinicians are overwhelmed, and determining the severity of a patient’s mental health condition can be incredibly difficult. In fact, the average time from the onset of symptoms to receiving treatment is more than 15 years—a staggering delay that represents countless missed opportunities for early intervention and better outcomes.

Modus partnered with Koa Health, a digital mental healthcare provider, to design, contextualize, and test a groundbreaking concept: An EHR integration that uses machine learning to predict and flag patients at risk of a mental health crisis. The goal? To give providers early alerts so they can step in sooner, deliver proactive care, and help prevent serious escalation.
